Best Broadband Deals for New Immigrants in the UK: What to Check
Check what reaches your address first, then choose a speed for how your household uses the internet. Before signing, read the contract length, the setup fee and any stated price rise, because new arrivals often overpay by signing on the first monthly price.

The full guide
Moving to the UK can be exciting, but setting up your new life can also become expensive very quickly. Reliable internet at home is one of the first things most people need, for work, studies, video calls and staying connected with family abroad. Here is how broadband works here and what to check before you sign.
What broadband means in the UK
Broadband is your home internet connection. Most providers offer fibre broadband, which is now the most common option, some still offer standard broadband over older lines, and mobile broadband uses a SIM and a portable router instead of a fixed line. Mobile broadband can suit temporary accommodation or anyone who wants to avoid a long contract.
Why new arrivals often overpay
A common mistake is choosing the first provider that appears online without reading the whole price. Some deals look cheap each month but carry a large setup fee, a long contract, a stated price step partway through, or a delivery charge. Others sell speeds far above what most homes use.
What to check
- Contract length. Many UK contracts run 18 or 24 months. If you have just relocated, a shorter or rolling contract is safer.
- Speed. Small households rarely need the fastest package; larger households and home workers benefit from full fibre.
- Setup and installation. Router delivery, activation and installation fees are easy to miss.
- Future price. Some contracts include a stated increase during the term. Check the starting monthly price and any future price shown before you commit. Wisemium displays future price steps where the provider has supplied them.
- Availability. Not every provider offers the same speeds at every address. Check your postcode first.
Fibre broadband or mobile broadband?
Fibre suits families, remote workers, longer term tenants and heavy streaming: a stable connection with unlimited data, at the cost of installation time and usually a longer contract. Mobile broadband suits students, temporary accommodation and flexible living: quick to set up and portable, but speed depends on signal and some plans cap data.
Mistakes to avoid
- Choosing on monthly price alone. The cheapest package is not the best value if the connection is unreliable.
- Missing the stated future price. Read what the monthly price becomes later in the contract.
- Paying for speed you will not use.
How Wisemium helps
Wisemium lists broadband from a number of providers, including BT, Zzoomm, YouFibre and Connect Fibre, and shows speed, contract length, setup cost, any stated future price and any reward, side by side. It does not list every provider in the UK. Add your broadband once it is set up and Wisemium keeps the contract end date on record and brings it back to you before it passes.
Wisemium may receive a commission if you take out a deal through a partner. It does not affect what you pay.
