Broadband Contract Ending? What Happens Next and What to Check
When your broadband contract ends, nothing switches off. You move onto a rolling contract with the same provider, usually at a higher price. Your provider must send an end-of-contract notice first, and that notice is your moment to decide.
- Nothing switches off
- The notice states your new price
- The new provider usually arranges the switch
Keeps the end date on record, so the notice is something you expected.

The full guide
When your broadband contract ends, nothing switches off. You move onto a rolling contract with the same provider, usually at a higher monthly price. Your provider must tell you before this happens, and that notice is your moment to decide.
The end-of-contract notice
UK providers are required to send an end-of-contract notification before your minimum term ends. It should state the date, what you pay now, what you will pay once the contract ends, and the best deals they can offer you. Read the price you will pay if you do nothing; that is the number that matters.
Your options
- Do nothing and pay the rolling price, which keeps you free to leave with short notice.
- Re-contract with the same provider, often at a lower price than the rolling one.
- Switch to another provider at your address.
How switching works
For most UK broadband switches the new provider arranges the move, including telling your old provider, and you keep service until the switch completes. You can switch before your contract ends, but early termination usually means paying for the remaining months, so check the end date first.
What to compare
- Speed you actually use, not the fastest on offer.
- Starting monthly price, and any future price the provider has stated during the term.
- Contract length and what leaving early costs.
- Setup or activation cost.
- Any reward, treated as separate from the monthly price.
- Availability at your address, which decides everything else.
How Wisemium helps
Add your broadband to Wisemium and it keeps the provider, the price and the contract end date on record, brings the date back to you before the notice arrives, and shows the packages it lists at that point with speed, term, setup cost and any stated future price side by side. Wisemium lists broadband from a number of providers, including BT, Zzoomm, YouFibre and Connect Fibre; it does not list every provider in the UK.
