Gigabit broadband
Gigabit broadband downloads at around 900Mbps or faster. It suits large households, big downloads and many devices at once. Over Wi-Fi most devices will see less than the full speed, so a wired connection or a good router matters as much as the plan.
12 current offers from Connect Fibre, YouFibre, Zzoomm, The One Broadband, Grain, Carnival, BT, Highland Broadband, as each seller states them, in order of monthly price.
Who it helps
Several people streaming, gaming and working at once, large game or file downloads, and homes with many connected devices.
Where the speed goes
The plan’s speed reaches the router. Older Wi-Fi, walls and distance reduce what a phone or laptop receives; a wired connection gets closest to the full speed.

What to check before you choose
- Whether a gigabit network reaches your address
- The upload speed as well as the download
- Whether the router supports the speed over Wi-Fi
- The contract length and any stated price rise
Common questions
- Do I need gigabit broadband?
- Most households do not. It helps where many people and devices are online at once, or with very large downloads.
- Will I get the full speed on Wi-Fi?
- Usually less. Distance, walls and the device’s own Wi-Fi limit it; a wired connection gets closest.
