6 Months Half-Price Broadband in Your Area: Checking Offers and the Real Cost

A half-price broadband offer charges half the monthly price for the first months, often six, then the full price for the rest of the contract. What it costs you is the total over the whole contract, including any setup fee and April rise.

  • Compare the whole-contract total
  • The full price starts automatically
  • Offers depend on your address

What a half-price contract costs over time

  1. Offer months

    Half the monthly price

Often the first six months. Add any setup or router fee.

  2. After the offer

    The full price starts

Automatically, for every month that remains.

  3. Each April

    Any rise in the contract

Stated in pounds and pence when you sign, since January 2025.

  4. 10 to 40 days before the end

    The end-of-contract notice

It states the price you would pay afterwards. Nothing switches off.

The full guide

A half-price broadband offer charges half the monthly price for the first months of the contract, often six, then the full price for the rest of it. What it costs you is the total over the whole contract: the offer months, the full-price months, any setup fee and any price rise written into the contract.

Work out the real cost

  1. Multiply the offer price by the number of offer months.
  2. Multiply the full price by the months that remain.
  3. Add any setup or router fee.
  4. Add the April rise if the contract has one: since January 2025 it must be stated in pounds and pence when you sign.

Worked example. A 24-month contract at £30 a month, half price for six months: six months at £15 is £90, eighteen months at £30 is £540, so £630 before any setup fee or April rise. The figures are an example, not an offer.

What is available at your address

Offers depend on the networks that reach your home. Full fibre runs fibre all the way to the building; part fibre uses the copper line for the last stretch, and its speed falls with distance from the cabinet. A provider’s address check shows which one you can have and the speed it expects to give you.

Choosing a speed

The speed is shared between everyone using the connection at once. Count the people who stream, work on video calls or download at the same time, and choose a speed for that busiest hour rather than the average one.

When the offer and the contract end

The full price starts automatically when the offer months end. When the contract itself ends, your provider must tell you between 10 and 40 days before, with the price you will pay afterwards; nothing switches off. When your broadband contract ends covers what to do then.

Switching provider

The new provider usually arranges the switch and tells your old one. Check any exit fee on your current contract first, and when you agree a new contract online or by phone you have 14 days to change your mind.

How Wisemium helps

Wisemium shows broadband plans from the providers it works with, not every plan on the market, with each plan’s monthly price, contract length, speed and any stated rise. Once you have a contract, add it to Wisemium and the price, the date the offer ends and the date the contract ends are kept on record, so you can see when each needs attention. Wisemium does not provide broadband itself.

Common questions

What happens after the half-price months?

The full monthly price starts automatically for the rest of the contract, plus any rise written into it.

Is a half-price offer the lowest total?

Not always. Compare the total over the whole contract, including setup and any April rise, not the first monthly price.

Why can I not get an offer I have seen advertised?

Offers depend on the networks that reach your address. The provider’s address check shows what is available to you.
