Best Broadband Deals for New Residents? What to Check First

The right deal depends on your address, your household and how long you want to be tied in. Check what reaches your home, choose a speed for your busiest hour, and compare the price now and later, not only a reward or voucher.

  • Your address decides
  • Price now and later
  • Rewards are not the whole price

Choosing broadband, in order

  1. First

    Check your address

Your postcode decides which providers and speeds you can get.

  2. Then

    Choose a speed

For the busiest hour in your home, not the average.

  3. Before signing

    Read the whole price

The monthly price, setup fee, contract length and any stated April rise.

  4. After

    Keep the end date

Add the contract to Wisemium so the end date is on record.

The full guide

Looking for the best broadband deal after moving to the UK? The right one depends on your address, your household and how long you want to be tied in. Here is what to check first.

Speed you will actually use

If you live alone and browse and stream, a standard fibre package is usually enough. If several people work from home, stream in high quality or game, a full fibre package with a higher upload speed will hold up better.

Your address decides your options

Broadband availability is decided street by street, so two homes on the same road can have different options. Checking your postcode first saves comparing packages you cannot have.

Price now and price later

Price changes. Some contracts include a stated price increase during the term. Check the starting monthly price and any future price shown before you commit. Wisemium displays future price steps where the provider has supplied them.

Wisemium shows the current monthly price, any future price step the provider has stated, the contract length, the setup cost where one is stated, and any reward separately from the price. A reward card is not a discount on your monthly bill, and it is worth treating it as a separate thing rather than as money off.

Rewards are not the whole picture

Vouchers and reward cards are genuine, but they are paid once. A package that is cheaper every month for two years can be worth more than a one off reward, so it is worth comparing the monthly price first and treating the reward as a tiebreaker.

How Wisemium helps

Add your broadband and Wisemium keeps the provider, the price and the contract end date on record, brings the date back to you before it passes, and shows the packages it lists so you can compare speed, term and cost.

Wisemium may receive a commission if you take out a deal through a partner. It does not affect what you pay.
