What is materially new
A variable-aperture main camera
The main lens moves between ƒ/1.48 and ƒ/4.0, so you can choose depth of field and let in more light at night. Apple states around 50% better low-light performance; the previous Pro’s main lens had a fixed aperture.
Longer battery life
Up to 34 hours of video playback, against 31 for the iPhone 17 Pro. Apple states up to six more hours on the Pro Max than on the 17 Pro Max.
8× optical-quality zoom
The telephoto reaches 100 mm and 200 mm equivalents (4× and 8×), a 16× range from the ultra wide; 48MP macro on the ultra wide.

How much does the iPhone 18 Pro cost in the UK?
From £1,199 outright at Apple UK for 256GB, rising to £2,399 for 2TB (13 September 2026). On the 24-month plan currently available through Wisemium it is £56.99 a month with £29 upfront, rising each April as stated on the option above.
Is the iPhone 18 Pro worth upgrading to from an iPhone 17 Pro?
Apple’s stated differences are the variable-aperture main camera, the A20 Pro chip and battery life (34 against 31 hours of video playback). If your 17 Pro’s battery and camera still serve you, the case is weaker than it is from an older phone; the iPhone 18 upgrade guide works through it.
iPhone 18 Pro or iPhone 18 Pro Max?
Same chip, same cameras, same storage choices. The Pro Max adds a 6.9″ display, longer battery life (43 against 34 hours of video playback) and 38 g, for £100 more outright. The decision page sets both out.
What happens to the monthly price during the contract?
The contract states a fixed rise each April; the option above shows the stated amounts and the dates they apply from. Compare any alternative against the risen figures.
Should I buy outright instead?
Outright means £1,199 now (or Apple’s own finance at £39.96 a month over 30 months) plus a SIM-only plan of your choice, and no tie to one network for two years. A contract spreads the handset cost and bundles the airtime. Add the outright price to 24 months of a SIM-only plan you would actually take, and set that against the contract with its rises included.
